George A. Damiano, 93, passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday, February 8, 2018 with family by his side.
Interment will be at Rose Hills Cemetery in Whittier, Cal. at a later date.
George was born May 22, 1924 in Riverside, Cal., the 7th of 8 children of Italian immigrants Maria and Antonio Damiano. Eventually the family settled on a ranch in Perris Valley, California where George graduated high school, lettering in football, basketball and track. George was a combat veteran of WWII, entering the army after graduation, serving as a machine gunner with the 7th Infantry Division, 184th Regiment in the Battle for Okinawa. George was awarded two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star for his service. He returned home in late 1946 to resume farming. He married his wife Beverly (Smith) in 1949 and eventually gave up farming, working for the City of Anaheim for the rest of his working career building and maintaining city parks. George had a great love and knowledge of plants and gardening and could grow just about anything. After the death of his wife in 1991 George and 2 sons Doug and Randy moved to Burleson, Tex. to be near his daughter Jan and his grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly; daughter, Linda and sons, Douglas and Randy.
Survivors: Daughter, Jan Morrow and husband, David; granddaughter, Gena Wooten of Burleson, Tex., and grandson Kristopher Wright of Arlington, Tex. along with 5 great-grandchildren.
