George O. Onarheim

March 25, 1925 — January 29, 2016

George Olsen Onarheim went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 29, 2016. He was 90 years young (because he never grew up). George was born March 25, 1925 in New York, NY. Entering heaven before him were his parents, Ole Bertin and Constansa Bruvig Olsen and siblings Gladys (Auntie), Trig, Johnny, Clara, Hjalmar, and Norman. He served in the Navy in the Pacific during WWII as an EM2c aboard the USS O’Flaherty DE-340. He received the following decorations: Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon with two bronze stars, American Area Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He worked for the New York Telephone Company for 45 years. He was ordained as a Trustee and Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Merrick, NY and Southside Baptist Church in Sebring, FL. He served his God, his church and his neighbors in multiple ways -- from Sunday school superintendent to a caring chauffeur and a faithful friend. God granted us many wonderful years with this devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, and for that we will be eternally grateful. Dad was deeply loved, and he is already deeply missed. George is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Betty; and his children, Ken Onarheim and wife, Marj of Gales Ferry, CT, Glenn Onarheim and wife, Nancy of Katy, TX and Joyce Baker and husband, Steve of Southlake, TX. He was grandfather to Dave, Peter, Amanda, Kelli, Dan, Ashley, Erik, and Lance and to one great-granddaughter, Emma. He was also a beloved uncle (Unk) to numerous nieces and nephews.
