George Opatrny, of Chicago, IL, passed away on January 12, 2021 in Fort Worth, TX. Loving husband and best friend to Marifran. He will always be remembered as a loving father to Ryan and Kelly (Patrick) Smolen. Loving Grandpa to Olivia Smolen. He was born on November 28, 1964 in Chicago, IL to Gertrude and Joe. George was a friend to many, lived life to the fullest, and loved nothing more than going to Las Vegas. He enjoyed gambling, a good cigar, Doritos, Chicago pizza, and a cold pint of Guinness. George is survived by his father Joseph (late Gertrude) Fabach; sisters Joann (Bud) Sonoda, Diane, Suzanne; loving/fun Uncle to Alex, Amanda, Jessica, Nicole, Owen, Emily, Abby, and Sam; favorite son-in-law to Tom (late Char) Kelly; brother-in-law extraordinaire to Chris (Richie-Pooh) Holden and Tom (Karen) Kelly. Cremation private.
George lit up every room he walked into with his booming voice, infectious laugh, and charming smile. In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place, no one else can ever fill. To quote Pearl Jam, one of his favorite bands, “…meet you on the other side.”
