Gerald (Jerry) Marvin Ball

February 22, 1934 — August 10, 2017

Gerald (Jerry) Marvin Ball, 83, of Euless, Texas, passed away Thursday, August 10, 2017, peacefully at his home.

A service to remember his life and celebrate his victory in Christ will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, August 15 at Brown Trail Church of Christ, 1801 Brown Trail, Bedford, TX. Burial will follow at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville. Visitation with the family will be on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Lucas funeral home in Hurst.

Gerald was born February 22, 1934, in Anson, Texas to Dick Ball and Ima (Windham) Ball. He graduated from Eula High School in 1952 and from Eastern New Mexico University in 1962.

On July 13, 1957, he married the love of his life Carolyn Phyllis Stahle in San Diego. Last month they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Gerald served in the Marines from 1953 – ’56 where he served as a drill sergeant and was later transferred to the Chaplin’s Office because he knew how to type.

In November of 1956, Gerald began his lifelong calling as a Minister of the Gospel of Christ. During his 61 years of preaching, Gerald served congregations in Leavenworth, Kansas; Warrensburg, Missouri; Floyd, New Mexico; Tecumseh, Oklahoma; Grand Prairie, Texas; Euless, Texas and most recently 30 years as the minister at Bedford Road Church of Christ. Gerald also taught new preachers for over 20 years at the Brown Trail School of Preaching.

During his life, Gerald was known by many different names: Gerald, Jerry, Son, Brother, “Tooter”, Husband, Dad, Papa, Friend, Preacher, Drill Sargent, Magician, A/C Repair Man and much more. But if you want to know the name that he was most proud of, the name that describes him better than any other name, it would simply be a Christian.

The greatest sermon Gerald ever preached was the life that he led every day. He leaves us with his last wish for all he met, “Some may wish you health and wealth; Others may wish you gold in store; But I wish you heaven after death; How could anyone ever wish you more!” – Love Jerry

In lieu of flowers, it is asked that you contribute to Bedford Church of Christ or the Brown Trail School of Preaching.

Gerald is survived by his wife Carolyn Ball, his son Carl Ball and daughter Peggy Key; four grandchildren, Jonathan Jenkins and his wife Danielle, Zachary Jenkins, Travis Ball and his wife Kristen, and Shannon Ball; and one great grandson, “my little buddy”, Jake Ryan Jenkins. He was preceded in death by his parents Dick and Ima, his sister Billie Lou Norman, his brother Kenneth Ball, and his brother Jack Ball.
