Gerald Joseph Snyder

May 20, 1930 — February 26, 2023

Gerald (Jerry) Joseph Snyder was born to Alonzo and Margarette (Magnetti) Snyder on May 20, 1930, in Maywood, Illinois. He served in the Navy for four years during the Korean War as a member of the United States Navy Band in Washington, DC. While in the Navy, he married his High School sweetheart, June Hann, on September 1, 1951. After the birth of their first child Jerry was baptized in the Christian faith, and confirmed that faith as a member of the Lutheran Church.
He attended the University of Illinois and received an engineering degree. He spent his entire career of almost 30 years with the DuPont Company, working in Orange, Texas and later Victoria, Texas. He retired in 1985.
Since 2019, Jerry was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. Before that he served as an organist while a member at Grace Lutheran Church, Orange, and Grace Lutheran Church, Victoria.
Throughout his life Jerry embraced music. He joined local musical groups everywhere he lived. He was the principle cellist in the Victoria Symphony and various other music organizations.
Jerry entered into Christ’s presence at the age of 92 on February 26, 2023. He lived a long Christian life, and noted that he looks forward to “joining the cello section of the celestial symphony” when Christ returns in glory on the Last Day.
Jerry was survived by his wife June, and they enjoyed 71 years of marriage together. They were blessed by God with four children: Renee (Jeff Gibbs), Dean (Valerie), Dale (Kathy), and Donna (Lee Morrison). They also were blessed with 14 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren.
