Gerald Cecil Spears passed away on February 19, 2021 in Keller. He was 83 years of age and a loving father and PaPa and will be dearly missed.
Service: Graveside: 2:00 pm, Sunday, February 28, 2021 at Sunset Cemetery in Sunset. Visitation: 6 to 8 pm, Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Lucas Funeral Home in Keller.
Gerald was born on June 9, 1937 in Fort Worth, Texas to Cecil Henry Spears and Fannie Louise Rowland Spears. He was the only son and had three sisters. Gerald graduated from Birdville High School in 1955. He went to work as a cashier for Buddy's grocery store while in high school. After graduation, he joined the Air Force Reserves. Gerald married the love of his life, Loretta Spears on December 20, 1957 after meeting two and a half months earlier through family members.
Gerald worked in a supervisory role during his career at General Dynamics, Texstar Plastics, Royalite Plastics, and Uniroyal Plastics. He oversaw manufacturing fiberglass parts for aerospace programs and military defense. He also worked on the F-111 project which was a supersonic tactical attack aircraft, and he built helmets for the astronauts in the space program.
The Spears' lived in Fort Worth, Haltom City, Smithfield, Hurst, Keller, Angel Fire New Mexico, and Lake Hills during the past 60 plus years. They were members of the Birdville Baptist Church, Kings Highway Baptist Church, and Smithfield Baptist Church.
Gerald and Loretta both loved to travel. They toured all over the United States, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, and went on several cruises to the Caribbean. They also enjoyed spending their summers at their mountain home in Angel Fire, New Mexico. Prior to moving back to Fort Worth in the summer of 2017, they resided at the Lake Medina RV Resort in Lake Hills, Texas.
He loved the outdoors and liked to play golf, snow ski, and watch sports. Gerald also loved country living, gardening, collecting coins, and spending time with family and friends. While the grandkids were growing up, he attended most ball games, performances, and awards ceremonies. He was a very proud PaPa!
Gerald was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Loretta Davis Spears; his parents, two sisters, and son-in-law, Ronny Becknal.
He is survived by his daughters, Pam Becknal and Kim McDonald; sister, Barbara Crouch; grandchildren, Jon McDonald, Matthew Becknal, Lee McDonald, Jef McDonald, Kristin Becknal, Jessica Seidl, and Natalie Becknal; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Parker, Lexi, AJ, Collins, and Austin; godson, Blake; best friend, Melvin Huett, and numerous other family and friends.
