Glenn E. Baker Sr

d. May 27, 2024

Dr. Glenn Edwin Baker, Sr. went to be with the Lord on the evening of Monday, May 27, 2024. "Doc", with the help of his wife Lene, was in his Hurst home recovering from surgery and radiation treatments. He was 89 years old and for 43 of those years he practiced Dentistry in Hurst.
He was born in Anson, Texas in the spring of 1935, the fourth child of Roy Lee Baker, Sr. and Selma Brown Baker. His older brother, Roy (Jr.) kept Glenn on the straight and narrow during Glenn's teen years. His sisters, Emabel and Mary Jane were his best friends and cared for him from the age of eight when their mother died.
He served his Uncle Sam in Alaska when it was 50 below zero. He was thankful to get back to Texas and start college.
On June 7, 1957 Glenn married Sammie Louise Reed and together they had three children - Glenn Edwin (Eddie) Baker, Jr., Andrew Fredrick, Kathryn Louise . They were married 33 years. He graduated Dental School just before Kathy was born. In this season of his life, there were all kinds of animals including squirrels, skunks, opossums, dogs, cats, horses and cows in the feedlot. There were motorcycles and four wheelers and trips to the woods of Oklahoma. Sometimes they would make the trip in one of their airplanes. As members of First Baptist Hurst, there were mission trips where Doc took care of dental work, while sharing the gospel. During this time, Doc's best bud and prayer partner, Lee Ferguson started the Thursday morning Men's Prayer Breakfast. Doc helped Lee get it ready and the prayer breakfast continues today, but Doc went home first.
On March 18, 2001, he and Ethelene (Lene) Eskew-Turner were married after Sunday night church at First Baptist Dallas. Glenn and Lene just celebrated their 23rd anniversary. From his youth, Glenn wore boots and jeans and at 65 when he and Lene married, he was still wearing boots. In addition to church attendance, the Bakers did missionary dentistry and enjoyed time with family on their "farm" near Centerville. Glenn loved to clear land and root out stumps with his tractors and bulldozer. He'd fish and hunt and sit on the porch talking with his Pipes cousins. Every year on the first Sunday of October Doc would go to the Brown Family reunion and catch up with all his cousins. He'll be missed this year.

He is survived by his wife, Lene, daughter, Kathy Baker, sons Eddie Baker, Andy Baker and Fred Portegeis. Kathy's children were always special to him. Michael Nobles, wife Stephanie, sons Oliver and Harlow, Alyssa Nobles, fiance Scott Lee, Benjamin Nobles and wife Ashley, Jonathan Nobles and Raelene Gentry. Nephews and Nieces include, Lee and Lisa Baker, Mary Lou and James Dove, Steve and HeeSoo Fielder, Jack and Ann Fielder, Jan and Doc Syers, Jan and Craig Hulse, Diana and Bryan Parkhill, and numerous great nieces and nephews. He is survived by his sister-in-law Nell Baker and brother and sister-in-law Jim and Joy Eskew.
