Glenn LeRoy Moody

Glenn Leroy (“Lee”) Moody of North Richland Hills, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on August 29, 2024. Lee was born in Lawrenceville, Illinois, on October 26, 1942, and had lived in Texas since 1991. His loving wife Sandy, all his kids and grandkids, family around the country, and the many friends he made in his long life already miss him deeply.

Growing up in Elkhart, Indiana, Lee was active in scouting and attained the highest rank of Eagle Scout. He later earned degrees in meteorology from the University of Utah and Florida State University and was a proud veteran with 27 years of service in the United States Air Force. His military career included a 13-month tour in South Vietnam, aerospace research and development for the Space Shuttle program at Vandenburg AFB in California, and many years with the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron (the “Hurricane Hunters”) at Keesler AFB in Mississippi. 

Lee was a lifelong fan of the Yankees and the Detroit Lions and loved his Seminoles football. In retirement, he spent many hours gardening, curating his walls full of sports memorabilia, and besting all competitors in cribbage. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, to whom he was a devoted dad (aka “Pops”) and grandpa (aka “Grumps”).  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn Wilson and Ota Jane Moody, his brother John Moody, and his sister Glenna Longcor. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sandra (Walker) Moody, his sons Mark Moody (Leann Yoder) and Michael Moody (Karen Zivi), daughters Sonya Diaz and Tonya Bishop, son Brian Bryant, and his brother James Moody (Lujean). His many beloved grandchildren include Logan, Adrienne, Davis, Lexi, Brady, Cole, and Gaige.  

A memorial service was held on Friday, Sept. 6th at 2pm at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst, Texas. He will be buried in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 1:30 pm with full military honors. If you wish to make a donation in his honor, he requested gifts to support cancer research, or simply to plant a tree or two. And please, as he always told his grandkids, “Have Fun and Be Safe.”
