Glenn Norton Jr.

May 7, 1935 — July 1, 2018

Glenn Hoyte Norton, Jr. passed away July 1, 2018 in Keller, TX at the age of 83.

Glenn was born in Fort Worth, TX on May 7, 1935 to Ruby and Glenn Norton, Sr. He graduated from Trimble Technical High School in 1953 and then enlisted in the Army. Glenn served during the Korean War as a tank mechanic. He claimed to be “okay” at it but immensely enjoyed working on heavy machinery. He was honorably discharged in 1957.

A few years later, Glenn met the red-headed love of his life, Catherine “Suzi” Weems. They married in 1960 and started their life together. In 1968, they moved to Burleson, TX. Glenn and Suzi were members of Calvary Baptist Church where they frequented with their two daughters, Sylvia and Dana. He loved his family fiercely and his greatest joy in life was being a provider for them.

Glenn had many occupations throughout the years but his favorite was being a substitute teacher in Burleson ISD. He also had a passion for writing and was a member of the Fort Worth Writers Workshop for many years. He was a handy-man around the house and enjoyed building things for his 5 grandchildren (who called him “Pepaw”) to play on.

He is survived, and dearly missed, by daughters Sylvia, and husband James Thompson of Fort Worth, TX, Dana, and husband James Dillow of Honeygrove, TX, and Theresa Clever of Kittanning, PA; son, Glenn H. Norton, III of Newark, DE; grandchildren Natalie, and husband Lucas Shipman, Meredith, and husband Jonathan Ahles, Dakota Kirkpatrick, and wife April, Zachary Thompson, and wife Bailey, and Nicole Kirkpatrick; great-grandchildren Max, Piper, and Graham Shipman and Ellison Ahles; sisters Mona Stout and Vicky Mangum; and beloved dog, Sport (it is only fitting to include him because of Glenn’s love for dogs).

Glenn is preceded in death by his parents, Ruby and Glenn Norton, Sr. and wife, Catherine Suzanne Norton.

A visitation service will be held at Lucas Funeral Home in Keller, TX, July 5, 2018 from 6-8:00 PM. Glenn will be laid to rest 11:00 Friday morning, July 6, 2018, at the DFW National Cemetery next to his wife.
