Glinda Davis

July 3, 1949 — June 18, 2019

Glinda Lee Critchfield Davis peacefully transitioned to Heaven June 18th after succumbing to the effects of Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and Lewy body dementia. Family and friends surrounded her in love during her final days. She was the only child born to Donald Gene and Billie Marie Critchfield on July 3, 1949 in Geary, Oklahoma. She would tell you all others named “Glenda” had a misspelling!
Her formative years were spent in Enid, Oklahoma. Boating and camping with her parents and cousin, Cliff, dominated their summers and weekends. A favorite getaway was an island in the middle of Canton Lake where they slept in tents and skied all day. Her Dad took pride in owning the latest Chris Craft powerboat!
The Critchfields moved to Irving, Texas when Glinda started high school. She gave cheerleading a try but decided to showcase her real talent instead as the lead drummer in the band! A female drummer of the MacArthur High School Band in the mid-60’s---now that’s sassy!
After graduation, she attended North Texas State University. She married and moved to several states in the southeast. Her favorite city of that sojourn was New Orleans. She loved the “vibe” there, but the fond memories were mostly attributed to the birth of her daughter, Amber Michelle. Of course, Glinda thought her to be perfect and expected her to always be exemplary. The young family soon made their way back to the DFW metroplex.
She used her diligence and intelligence to excel at various positions during her adult years, but her favorite was as a “federal author” at GTE/Verizon. She was an active member of a social and service sorority for over 40 years. The relationships she formed in that organization and at GTE lasted a lifetime.
Her life took a fortuitous turn in 1992 when she married Stanley Davis. He easily meshed with her friends and they harvested many more together! Amber, and Stan’s son Cory, enjoyed memorable vacations and snow skiing expeditions with friends that felt like family. An enduring bond forged with “Home Team” couples from Fellowship Church of Grapevine widened their special kinships. Their shared passion of lake activities eventually led them to purchase a place in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. They were attached to the area, but the distance became an issue. Possum Kingdom Lake provided better accessibility and great fun for family and friends! Her adult beverage of choice on the boat or floating in the water more closely resembled a fruit smoothie or decadent milkshake!
Becoming a GiGi in May of 2003 with the birth of grandson, Mason, transformed her life! She was equally excited about the arrivals of Davis and Kylie. This was the role she cherished and those three truly gave her the Gift of Delight!
Years of shopping trips to the Dallas Market Center with Amber and her best friend, Sandi Ridenour, yielded timeless and distinctive furnishings and accessories for their homes and sometimes “treasures” only truly appreciated by the buyers!! Glinda was naturally beautiful and fashionably presented herself with the latest in dress, jewelry and hairstyle.
Glinda had many enviable qualities-----she was sensitive, yet tough when necessary; she demanded the best from herself and her family; she was confident and sure her way was right (turned out to be true most of the time!); she was detail-oriented and a careful planner; she loved to have fun and had an infectious laugh; she was kind and sympathetic-----she was OURS and we will never forget her.
Glinda was spiritual and proud to have been baptized at Fellowship Church as an adult. When walking anywhere with a group, Glinda had to take the lead. She liked to be three or four steps ahead of everybody else. She will be waiting for us.
Glinda is survived by husband, Stan Davis; daughter Amber Blair (Jerry); grandchildren Mason, Davis and Kylie Blair; stepson Cory Davis (Laura) and their son Shane; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Tom and Janna Nall; maternal aunt and uncle, Neal and Mary Hoffman; paternal aunt, Phyllis Lamons; and numerous cousins.
She was predeceased by first husband, Michael Eubanks, and both parents.
We would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to all staff at Custom Care Hospice and Ellery Arbor Memory Care facility in Colleyville. Not only did they care for Glinda with devotion and compassion, but provided much needed comfort and friendship to her attending family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Glinda's honor to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
