Gloria Elizabeth Payne, 81, of Mansfield, Texas, journeyed to heaven on Wednesday, November 4, 2020.Born in Richmond, Virginia on May 16, 1939 to the late Arthur Payne and Esther Smith, Gloria graduated from Maggie Walker High School. She later attended Virginia Union University and received her Bachelor’s degree from Boston College.
Mother of two daughters, Vanessa JoAnn Daniels and the late Juana Denise King, she moved to Boston, Massachusetts where she worked at Massachusetts Institute of Technology before moving to Texas where she worked at GTE. A devoted Christian, she was an active member at Twelfth Baptist Church in Roxbury, Massachusetts, The Vine Fellowship in Arlington, Texas and attended Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas.
Committed to family and community, Gloria enjoyed a rich life full of family gatherings, table talks and fellowship. She enjoyed traveling, camping, reading, music, dancing, crocheting, cooking and Snickers Bars. Preceded in death by her daughter, Juana Denise King and son-in-law, Mark Daniels, she is survived by her eldest daughter, Vanessa Daniels of Mansfield, Texas; granddaughter, Whitney Denise McCrary of Lewisville, Texas; grandson, Blake Jordan McCrary of Los Angeles, California; great-grandson, Jivanni Shawn Simmons of Lewisville, Texas; brother, Linwood Douglas of Virginia; son-in-law, Shelton McCrary of Hurst, Texas; son-in-law, James Anthony King, and a host of extended family and friends.
Celebration of Life service will be held at 10 a.m., on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at Gateway Church, 4209 Basswood Boulevard, Fort Worth, Texas, 76137. Due to Covid-19, there will not be a repass.
In Lieu of Flowers: The family is requesting that donations can be made to the American Heart Association of Fort Worth.
