Gloria Varnon, a beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away this July.
This talented, creative and spunky lady was born and raised in New England over 80 years ago. (She would never give her real age, even to her kids) She was very proud of her sister and brothers. And very proud of being Irish and Catholic. Her family must have been surprised when she fell in love and married a soldier boy from Texas!
Mother loved her home and garden. She would see a patch of dirt and no trees and change that quick as a wink into a shady flower filled garden of Eden. (All planted by our dad) Mother and Dad oved their dogs and taught us to take care of them too. Mother was a good cook and set a beautiful table ready for a queen to arrive!
Mother was an industrious realtor and enjoyed learning and helping people find their own lovely homes.
Mother and Dad became a real team when they bought an Austin Healy car from their dear friends and went on rallys with a car club.
When mother and dad became grandparents you would have thought this was the first time on this planet! They were so happy just to look at their little faces!
But, mother and dad were just as happy and proud talking about their sons and daughter. (So I have since heard from her friends)
In mothers last few years she could not get out so much but she cherished phone calls from her sons, her brothers, and her friends. And visits from her family. Her great granddaughters visits would brighten even her darkest days.
Mother took us to church and taught us how to pray and had us memorize and learn the 10 commandments at 7 years old. Real values of honesty and fairness that help us to this day.
We will miss her and dad forever.
So when you feel like your heart is heavy, say a prayer and thank God for your parents.
