Gwendolyn Christine Allred, of Fort Worth, Texas, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 15, 2024. Gwen bravely fought leukemia after being diagnosed in September, 2015 but ultimately won the battle as she is now healed and in the presence of our Loving Father.
Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio on February 3, 1978, Gwen grew up dancing and enjoying musical theatre. Never timid or fearful of the unknown, Gwen moved cross-country by herself to live in California, New York City, Colorado and Texas.
A graduate of American Music and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) in NYC, Gwen continued to pursue her love for the arts while both performing and teaching dance and musical theatre. While in New York City Gwen also served and worked for the Times Square Church, assisting in directing numerous artistic programs and teaching youth. Shortly after moving to Colorado, Gwen shifted gears and felt called to pursue a career as an Occupational Therapy Assistant, working specifically with pediatric patients while continuing to participate in musical theatre productions in her spare time. Eventually God set her heart on Texas where she moved and ultimately called home. In 2015, she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. After 30 days in the hospital getting chemo treatments, she was in remission for just over 5 years. Then she meet the love of her life, Leaman Allred, and they were married in November 2017. They spent their time living life, having fun and impacting people’s lives. During this time, one of their godsons, Donivine, decided to call them Mom and Dad because of their influence on him, so she gained a son. Leukemia reared its head again in 2021. She fought it with two bone marrow stem cell transplants over two years, then a trip to Houston to have them work their magic, but the leukemia eventually overtook her.
Throughout Gwen’s life there has been a common thread: her love for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her love for her family. Always putting others before herself, she has loved each of her nieces, nephews, great nieces and grandkids as extensions of herself, never forgetting a birthday or special occasion and never missing an opportunity to tell them of her love for them.
Gwen is survived by her loving husband Leaman, her mother Peggy (Ewart), her father Jack Swinehart, her siblings Elizabeth Brahler (Jason), Matthew Swinehart (Laurelei), Valerie Tauber (Greg), son Donivine Barnett (Haylee), grandchildren Britten, Brooks, Hayes, and her beloved nieces and nephews, Jess, Anna, Maddie, Avalai, Molly, Tennyson and Reagan, in addition to many other relatives and cousins that will greatly miss her.
