FLOWER MOUND -- Gwendolyn "Gwen" Trammel Duplantis of Flower Mound went to his heavenly kingdom on Saturday morning, Feb. 9, 2013. She was 88 years old.
Memorial service: 3 p.m. Friday at Lucas Funeral Home, 700 W. Wall St., Grapevine. Visitation: The family will receive friends prior to service starting at 2 p.m.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gwen's honor to the National Shrine of St. Jude at shrineofstjude.org. Gwen was born on May 6, 1924, in New Orleans, La. In 1941, she met Allen, who had just enlisted in the Navy after the attack on Pearl Harbor. They were married later the following year and spent the next 57 years together until Allen passed way in January 2000. They had one son, Robert, in 1943. Throughout their marriage, they lived in New Orleans, La., Georgetown, Newport Beach, Va., and Hot Springs, Ark. Gwen's passion in her life was history. She read most anything related to the Civil War or American Colonial history. She also developed a keen interest in her Scottish heritage. She shared her passion for history with her son and grandchildren, taking them on tours of Colonial America and old Civil War battlegrounds. In addition to her interest in history, Gwen could sew and knit most anything. From Halloween costumes, to Mardi Gras costumes, to Colonial-era costumes, there was no job too big for Gwen. Gwen will also be remembered for her incredible baking and cooking. She was one of the best Cajun and Creole chefs and an incredible pastry chef as well. Gwen, known as Maw Maw to her grandchildren, was a kind soul. She shared her knowledge freely and loved her family immensely. She will be missed dearly.
Survivors: Son, Bob Duplantis and wife, Roberta; grandson, Dr. Chad Christopher Duplantis and wife, Ellen, of Keller; grandson, Todd Stephen Duplantis and wife, Laura, of Houston; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Gabriele, Austin and Ava Brielle; numerous nephews and nieces; her best friend of 85 years, "Dee Dee"; and many wonderful, loving and caregiving friends who became her extended family.
