Harriett Fagg was called to heaven on April 18, 2018 at age 74. Harriett was born on June 28, 1943 in Norfolk, Virginia to a Navy family. She traveled around the country with her family, living in many places including Portland, Oregon, before they settled in Texas. Harriett attended Pearland High School, participating in extracurricular activities such as choir, before graduating in 1962. She worked several years as a telephone operator. Her extensive resume' throughout the years grew as diverse as the places she called home during those times, including a school bus driver for Aldine ISD, a housekeeper for the Mexia State School, a part-time cook for the Weathervane Restaurant in Buffalo, TX, and a kiosk clerk for the Brookshire Brother’s fuel station in Teague, TX. She loved old movies, especially westerns, and was a lifelong fan of Roy Rogers and his movies, but “only the ones with Dale Evans in them, too!” She loved to cook and bake, and kept a collection of family recipes that had been passed down through generations. Among both friends and family members alike, she was well-known for her quick-witted and snarky sense of humor, with each humorous remark sure to be met with an equally humorous retort. Her compassionate and generous nature was met with an unrelenting fighting spirit, and helped to see her through the tough times. She loved her friends and family very much, regarding everyone she cared for as family. She will be deeply missed by her family, including nieces, nephews, cousins, sister, and children. Harriett is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Alice Borden, and her eldest sister, Alberta. Harriett is survived by her daughter, Courtney, stepdaughter, Angela, 3 step-grandchildren, and older sister, Winnifred. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 23, 2018, at Lucas Funeral Home in Grapevine, TX. The funeral home will also host a traditional service at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. The family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations to organizations such as the American Cancer Society and the American Diabetes Association in Harriett’s memory would be greatly appreciated.
The family would like to extend its appreciation to the many doctors, nurses, aides, directors, and facilitators who all have played critical roles in Harriett’s care, including those of Medical City Dallas, Baylor Scott & White in Grapevine, the Landing at Watermere in Southlake, Visiting Angels In-Home Care, Beyond Faith Home & Health Care, the Lodge at Bear Creek in Grapevine, and Lucas Funeral Home in Grapevine.
