Helen Mae Lightbody

Helen Lightbody passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday morning, November 19, 2019, at the age of 95 years old.

Helen Mae Solomon was born on May 29, 1924 to John and Antoinette Solomon, and grew up on their family dairy farm in Pennsylvania. After graduation from High School, where she was a cheerleader, Helen utilized her secretarial skills by working for the Sherriff’s Department.

Helen moved to Los Angeles after World War II, and worked for the CAA (Civil Aeronautics Administration, predecessor to the FAA), where she met and later married Lt Commander Laurance Nottingham Lightbody, a WWII veteran naval aviator. They had a daughter and a son, and relocated to Euless, Texas, in 1963.

Helen and Larry enjoyed golf and were members of Rolling Hills Country Club. Helen participated in many golf tournaments, received numerous trophies and awards, and achieved three hole-in-one shots during her lifetime.

Helen dedicated many years to community service, actively involved on the City of Euless Parks and Community Services Board, as a member of the Euless Planning and Zoning Commission, completing the Euless Fire Department Citizen’s Fire Academy, the FEMA Community Emergency Response Team Training, and was an active volunteer with the Euless Police Department. Helen retired as an executive secretary with Bell Helicopter.

Helen enjoyed traveling to various locations including China, Banff, Egypt, the Panama Canal, and Southeast Asia.

Helen is survived by her daughter Laurna Berg, son-in law Douglas Berg, five grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren:
Sarah (granddaughter) and Kyle Florio, and their daughters Mila and Briar, of Dripping Springs, Texas;
Elizabeth (granddaughter) and Fraser Hess, and their children Nathan, Rachel, and Abby, of Centennial, Colorado;
Carolyn Berg (granddaughter) of Tulsa, Oklahoma;
Rebekah (granddaughter) and Rob Urbanek, and their children Tristan, Caedance, Aura, and Amren, of McKinney, Texas; and
David (grandson) and Kendall Berg, and their children Kensington and Everett of McKinney, Texas.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband and son.
Helen will be buried in the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery next to her beloved husband.

Helen was loved by all and will be deeply missed.
