Affectionately known as “LuLu”, or “Grandma” was born to Henry Pyle and Lillian Jane Pratt on July 24, 1946, in Harris County, Texas. Helon lived in the Bedford, Texas area then moved as a little girl to St. Louis, Missouri where she attended grade school. Her family came back to Bedford, Texas where she attended HEB schools and graduated from LD Bell High School in Hurst, Texas in 1964. After high school Helon attended Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree.
At age 14 she was a very accomplished Quarter Midget race car driver at the Bubblegum Bowl in Grand Prairie, Texas. Her driving skills earned her many awards, trophies, and newspaper articles for her talents.
Helon was a long time member of St. Vincent’s Cathedral Anglican Church in Bedford, Texas. Also, a longtime resident of Hurst, Texas. She worked for and retired from Exel Supply Chain in Roanoke, Texas where she worked as an administrative assistant. Her hobbies included gardening, genealogy, and home projects.
On 11/13/2022 she was called home to be with Jesus after losing her battle with acute pancreatitis. Helon will be sorely missed by family and friends not to mention her loyal canine companion of 14 years Lucy. Don’t worry Lucy will be cared for by family.
Family members that have proceeded Helon in death are her mother Lillian Jane Martin, stepfather Rogie Martin, brother Mark Martin. She is survived by sister in law Joy Martin, Niece Meagan Martin, and nephew Cody Martin.
Her canine special survivors are Roxy, Mitzi, and Tiki known has her granddogs. They will sorely miss “grandma” seeing her everyday with dog biscuits and belly rubs.
