Hermon Newberry

October 11, 1922 — November 5, 2012

FORT WORTH -- Hermon Udell Newberry, 90, went to be with the Lord peacefully Monday, Nov. 5, 2012.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Friday at Lucas Sylvania Funeral Home. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Hermon was born Oct. 11, 1922, to James and Eula Newberry, outside of Heber Springs, Ark. He came to Texas around 1940-1941. He met and married his bride of nearly 68 years, Cora Laverne "Billie" Newberry, on Nov. 14, 1942. Hermon started his life's career at Convair in January 1947. He stayed with the company after the change to General Dynamics, and then retired, at 72 years old, from Lockheed Martin in May 1995. He retired with 48-plus years of service. He loved to hunt and fish. In the 1950s and '60s, there was rarely a weekend that we didn't hit Grapevine Lake or Texoma with family and friends. He loved the farm that he established in 1969 outside Winkler. In 1979, he and "Billie" started the building of their home there. They built it from the ground up themselves. He was a man of integrity, loyalty and honesty. He was a man of few words, but when he did speak, they were words from his heart, and he meant it. He will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother; sister; and wife of 67 years, Billie.

Survivors: Daughter, Joye Biery; grandchildren, Jason Oakley and wife, Virginia, Sarah Brown and husband, Scotty, and Jacob Biery and wife, Ashley; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Caleigh Oakley, Kassidy and Karsyn Brown and Tyler and Austin Biery; sister, Mary Anna Martin; a large number of nieces and nephews; and extended family.
