Horace Wilson Petty

Horace Wilson Petty, 87, of Hurst, Texas was born on August 20, 1935 and passed away peacefully on May 26, 2023. Horace was the son of Olen Dennis and Bettie Petty. He was one of 13 brothers and sisters that grew up in Brazos, Texas. Horace graduated from Santo High School. He enlisted into the United States Air Force and served from 1955 to 1959.
Horace married Linda Kaye Messersmith in 1962, and they were married for 61 years. Linda was his “one”, he loved her and would have done anything for her. They had 3 children, 7 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
Horace worked for Bell Helicopter for 32 years and retired in 1996. After he retired, he started his vending business which gave him a sense of pride and accomplishment doing something he loved for many years. If you were hungry, you could always find snacks at his place.
He was an amazing provider, would fix anything (even if it was just with his duct tape or WD-40), and was a “do anything for you” kind of man. He was humble, easy going, funny, and a kind-hearted generous man. Horace was known as Paw Paw to his grandkids and cherished his family. One of his favorite things to do was go to the Petty Farm. It was his piece of Heaven on Earth. Horace had a special love for all his family and friends. He greeted anyone he met with love and kindness, like they had been friends for years. Horace truly never met a stranger. He was loved and admired by everyone that met him and will be greatly missed.
Horace was preceded in death by his parents Olen Dennis and Bettie Petty. Siblings - Bill, Sue, Imogene, Jim, Olen, and Kenneth.
Horace is survived by his wife - Linda Petty; daughter - Lisa and husband Craig Allen; son - Todd and wife Stephanie Petty; daughter - Kris and husband Matt Shanahan; grandchildren -Patrick and wife Gina Allen, Paige and husband Aaron Yates, Christopher Allen, Tanner Petty, Taylor and husband Jeremiah Ucker, Brandon Miller, Blake Miller; great-grandkids - Kieran Yates, Kyler and Austyn Ucker; Siblings - Nina Faye, Durwood, Evelyn, Denzil, Gerald, Janice, and many nieces and nephews.

Family and Friends of the Petty family are respectfully invited to attend the visitation and funeral service for Horace Petty, which will be held at Lucas Funeral Home at 1321 Precinct Line Rd Hurst, TX 76054. Visitation will be on June 3rd from 3-5 pm. The funeral will be June 4th at 10 am with the graveside service following at Dobbs Valley Cemetery located at 737 Dobbs Valley Rd Mineral Wells, TX 76067 at 2 pm.
