Horace Eddie Phillips was born in Dallas, Texas on June 20, 1961, to Doyle and Lillie Phillips. He was baptized into the family of God at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Dallas on April 22, 1962. He confirmed his faith on May 18, 1975, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Irving. He later became a member of Our Redeemer, Irving until moving to Bedford where he joined Peace Lutheran. He was a member there for over three decades. He especially loved his Small Group and always looked forward to the annual Men’s Retreat.
Horace graduated from Irving High School in 1979. He then went to work at Delta Airlines where he was a member of the ramp ground crew for more than 20 years. While he worked a few more jobs before retirement, he always considered himself a Delta man and treasured his time at DFW and his friends he made there.
Horace loved people. He had a gift for talking to complete strangers and making friends. He was a loyal friend and once you became his friend, you were a friend for life.
Horace had a love for music dating back to childhood. After being ‘gently forced’ to join choir, he discovered his love for all genres of music. He considered himself a bit of an expert in this area.
Horace loved his lists and kept track of what he considered the best movies, music, and restaurants. He also loved sports-especially football. It was best not to call on Saturday when the Sooners were playing and certainly not on Sundays when his Cowboys took the field.
But what Horace loved most was his family. A proud mama’s boy and his father’s son, he remained close to his sister, her husband and children his entire life. He was affectionately known as simply ‘Uncle’ to his niece and nephew.
Horace is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister Kathy Lentz, brother-in-law Kevin, niece Rebekah, nephew Jacob, and Jacob’s wife Kaydi, as well as numerous cousins and countless friends.
