Howard Brown was born on November 14,1920 in Foreman, Arkansas. His father was deaf and Howard and his mother communicated with him using sign language. Howard attended Riverside High School and began working at the early age of 12 delivering groceries in the Riverside area to help support his brother who was born with a severe heart defect.
Howard served honorably in World War II as a communications specialist in the Army going in before the Army troops to lay telephone communications in the Phillipine Islands.
Howard married Martha Hale in 1941 and was married for 55 years until Martha passed away due to a brain cancer in 1996. Howard and Martha lived in the Riverside area of FTW, with brief moves to Atlanta, Texas and Paris, Texas. They moved to Colleyville, Texas in 1974.
After the war Howard worked at Swift Co. on the north side of Fort Worth. During a strike at SWITF CO, Howard went to Western Electric seeking employment but declined a job offer to lay transatlantic cable in order to remain close to his family. As fate would have it when he got on the elevator the operator told him that Southwestern Bell Telephone Company was hiring and thus he began his 39 ½ year career with them.
Howard retired in 1985 to join a family business in Colleyville called Udderly Country, a retail store selling furniture, gifts, Christmas items and wallpaper.
He worked full time until the age of 91 refinishing pianos and other antiques.
Howard was known and admired for his strength of character and work ethic
