Howard Smith, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on March 14, 2025 at his home in Bedford. He will always be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, husband, friend and colleague to all that knew and loved him. He was born on July 8, 1955 at Dallas Methodist Hospital to Norma Lou Young and Howard Eugene Smith Sr.
Howard graduated from Trinity High School in 1973 and promptly enlisted into the Army. He was deployed to Korea for a year prior to marrying his first wife, Jeanne Marie Crutcher. He then spent the remainder of his duty at Fort Ord in California completing 4 years of service with a final rank of Sergeant E5. After serving in the military, Howard spent some time as a barber, and then a plant manager prior to opening his own very successful business in the fire prevention industry, all while raising his two young boy’s. While he worked hard on his own business, he also dedicated his time as a reserve police officer for the city of Irving where him and his family resided. During this time, some life decisions led him to the current love of his life, Betty Ruth Daniel, whom he spent his last 31 years of life with on Earth. After selling Western Fire Extinguisher, Howard finished his career as a jailor for the city of Euless for 13 years.
Howard is survived by his wife, Betty Smith, sister, Nancy Smith VanZandt, son’s, Clinton and Matt Smith, stepson Jason Mathews, and 15 beautiful grandchildren. Howard was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Faye Daniel. The visitation will be held from 10-11am on Friday, April 4th, 2025, at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst, Texas, followed by a chapel ceremony beginning at 11 am. The Graveside will be held at 1:30pm that same day at DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.
