Hugh was a dedicated and respected business man. He worked hard his entire life.
A graduate of Spearman High in Spearman Texas, he began working in the cotton fields at the young age of 12. Later, he and his brother Earl went on to work in the oil fields.

Hugh proudly and honorably served his country as a United States Army MP from March 3, 1953 to March 15, 1955.

Following his military service, Hugh returned to California and went to work for
Harvey Aluminum and eventually transferred to Dallas, Texas. Hugh's business sense led him to other companies including S.H. Leggett Company and then RV Dealers. Finally, Hugh struck out on his own and became a business owner, working as a manufacturer's representative for Playmore Trailers. Hugh didn't just work in the recreational vehicle industry, he helped to shape what is now a $2B+ industry. A founding member of the Texas Recreational Vehicle Association (TRVA), Hugh served on the board of directors from 1978-1981. He was one of only 40 persons in the last 30 years to be inducted as a lifetime member of the TRVA. Hugh received many awards from the TRVA including:

• Elected to Board of Directors – 1977-1981 (For dedication of time, money and service to the Recreational Vehicle Industry
• Big Wheel Award – 1978-79 (Quota Buster for Recruitment)
• Super Show III - 1978 (Recognized for unselfish sacrifice)
• Super Show Recognition – 1987 (Recognized for loyalty, dedication and support)

His work ethic was beyond compare. Hugh's daughter shared that for as long as she could remember her dad carried this passage in his wallet:

"This is the beginning of a new day. God has given me this day to use as I will. I can waste it or use it for good. What I do today is very important because I am exchanging a day of my life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever leaving something in its place I have traded for it. I want it to be gain, not loss - good, not evil. Success, not failure in order that I shall not forget the price I paid for it.
Alabama Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant

Pass Times/Activities
In his youth, Hugh played catcher on a minor league baseball team. He was an avid football and baseball fan. He never missed a Ranger's game. He enjoyed playing cards with his brothers whenever he got the chance. He also liked to play chess and dominos. Hugh was known to have shot a few games of dice from time to time as well.

Hugh loved breakfast. Pancakes, waffles, hot coffee ... pretty much any breakfast goodie he could get his mitts on.

Automobiles were an important part of Hugh's life. New cars, old cars, anything with wheels that could take him places. When he lost his ability to drive, he told his family that he had only one regret, "I was hoping that I could have had one more new car before I died."

Hugh had a passion for travel. His job kept him on the road most of the time, but it was something he truly liked doing. He enjoyed going places and meeting new people. He was at home when he was on the American highway. He knew where to find the best coffee shops, even 500 miles from nowhere. Hugh told his family that, "That when it's my time, I am ready. I've been able to go a lot of neat places. I got to meet a lot of great people, and I had a really good time."

We respectfully honor the life of Mr. Hugh Buford Hyatt. He enjoyed having a good time and as we mentioned before he liked playing cards, chess and dominos. He especially liked a good game of dice. It is therefore fitting to celebrate all of the good times we've shared with Hugh. It would be his wish that we all "get up, get round, and get squared away." And get on with the business of life.
