Jacqueline (Jackie) Satterfield Turner was born on March 17, 1929 to Jack and Betty Satterfield of Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, with five brothers and sisters. She was raised in Mt. Pleasant where she attended Hay Long High School. She played basketball all four years and was also a cheerleader. She was voted Queen of the Mule Day Parade in Columbia, Tennessee in 1947. She enjoyed trips to Daytona Beach with her friends and could always be found sitting outside soaking up the sun. While working as an operator for Bell Telephone she was set up on a blind date by June Turner, our dad’s aunt. Three short months later they eloped to Tupelo Mississippi.
Bill whisked her away to Biggs AF Base in El Paso, Texas to begin her career as an USAF wife. She and Bill had three children, Debi, Bill Jr., and Matt and traveled to such exotic places as Great Britain, Tokyo, Japan and numerous states, including Hawaii. As a military wife she enjoyed participating in inter-mural sports, such as bowling, softball, and golf. She was a champion bowler and won numerous tournaments and awards well until her mid 80’s. She was 81 years old when she bowled over 600 in a three-game series! She was also an avid golfer well into her 80’s. Jackie endured numerous moves to different duty stations while raising three children with no complaints. She truly loved being a military wife. She and Bill retired from the USAF in June 1973. They moved to Pensacola, Florida in 1979 and finally settled in Navarre, Florida.
Jackie is preceded in death by her husband, CMSgt William (Bill) Lewis Turner, Sr. She is survived by her children, Debi, Bill Jr., and Matt, 10 grandchildren, (Chris, Ric, Matt, Emily, Brett, Kellen, Garrett, Skyler, Morgan, and Nathan), and 10 great-grandchildren (Victoria, Aiden, Allison, Ashton, Delaney, Abigayle, Kaden, Oliver, Cohen, and James Anna). She was known as Nana. She will be interned alongside her beloved husband of 50 years in our family cemetery in Perry County, Tennessee.
Jackie was loved and adored by all who knew her. We will miss you, Nana.
