A beautiful, kind and graceful soul, Jaina Jan Poindexter passed away Monday, February 24, 2025, at the age of 82.
Jan was born July 29, 1942, to William Delmer and Zella La Nelle Johnston in Humbletown, Cisco, Texas. In her youth she was a bit of a tomboy and enjoyed playing basketball, softball and baseball, often hitting the ball further than the boys. One of her favorite childhood memories was when her hero from the movies, Lash LaRue, came to Cisco. She and her friend Joan got to meet him and spend time with him. Jan studied piano from age 4 to 12 winning awards in piano competitions along the way.
Everyone Jan went to school with knew and loved her. She was the editor of the yearbook and graduated from Cisco High School in 1960. Jan majored in psychology and Graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1964. She was a drug abuse educator/counselor at the City of Fort Worth Drug Abuse Center. Later she worked for a large real estate firm as an advertising director. After that she spent 20 plus years as an Executive Assistant at City Center owned by the Bass Brothers where she later retired.
Jan was passionate about her faith. It was important to her to honor and glorify God in everything she did.
She loved to spend a quiet afternoon worshiping, singing, praying and reading the Bible. When she drove, she sang along to worship music. She embodied her faith with a graceful presence that touched everyone around her. She was not afraid of dying as she often said, "I know where I’m going."
Jan cherished time with family and friends and regularly volunteered her time helping others. With her warm smile she was always willing to offer a listening ear or a hug to those around her. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her loving son, Chris Johnston; her daughter, Kelly Poindexter; her grandson, Christopher Johnston, and his wife, Sasha; and her beloved great grandchildren, Asher and Grayson.
