James Robert Beck

February 14, 1946 — January 20, 2023

James Robert Beck, of Keller Texas, completed his lifelong journey on January 20, 2023 and will finally be able to answer his lifelong quest to find out who is buried in Grants Tomb and exactly how many dead people are buried in the cemetery. During his time he achieved a lifetime of experience.

He was born on Valentine’s Day in 1946. His parents Maxine and John Beck and his sister Carol all resided in Hales Corners Wisconsin.

Overcoming polio at an early age he tried his hand at polo saying he wanted to try something without I in it.

As a young man he started working at Baskin Robbins eventually leaving after trying all 31 Flavors (which was the next day).

A decorated US Army veteran, who served with the 588th Engineer Battalion in Vietnam, he was a proud contributor to veteran causes. After leaving the military he moved to Texas and began his civilian career at Goodyear lasting more than one year, not all good. He soon joined Southwestern Bell Telephone where he was asked to deposit .65 cents for the next 20+ years.

In the 1980’s after leaving a career of standup comedy performing on stage with Bill Engval, he tried his hand at sit down comedy, which he carried on through his later years in his wheelchair.

His NASCAR sponsorship was viewed by 10s of people. He was co-owner of the Green Bay Packers, having never once seen a game from the owner’s luxury box, or any game for that matter.

During his lifetime he learned to drive his dream car of a Ford Mustang. He also rode motorcycles, vans, station wagons, and wheelchairs.

His parting words in this life were “if it rains on your parade, that’s what the floats are for”.

Unlike his favorite M*A*S*H episode Tuttle, where the character was made up and his background was crafted by Hawkeye, Jim was a character who had a wonderful life. One full of blessings and fun.

He is survived in life by all those still living. His children, his grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and loving wife Claudia.

He will be missed by all that knew him and were touched by his humor and love. Those that didn’t know him won’t miss him at all.
