James Terrance "Terry" Blakeley
It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Terrance "Terry" Blakeley, who left us on February 13, 2025, at the age of 81.
Born on July 6, 1943, in Hobbs, New Mexico, Terry graduated from Western New Mexico University with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing before building a successful career with AAFES (Army & Air Force Exchange Service), where he worked for many years before retiring. He proudly served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, shaping his strong work ethic and love for adventure. His career and service took him across the world, living in Sicily, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Illinois, Alabama, and Texas. He also worked as a civilian during Operation Desert Storm.
Terry was smart, quick-witted, and direct, always saying exactly what was on his mind. He had a sharp sense of humor, loved great conversation, and never shied away from speaking the truth. A true outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hiking, boating, woodworking, and shooting, finding joy in working with his hands. He had a deep appreciation for classic country music, especially ABBA, Willie Nelson, The Oak Ridge Boys, and Hank Williams Jr.
Terry is survived by his children: Colleen Blakeley, Sean Blakeley (wife Cris), Cynthia Lee, and Kimberly Garcia; grandchildren Lauren Blakeley, Garrison Lee, Mackenzie Lee, Logan Blakeley, and Landrie Garcia; and one great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl Blakeley; his brother, Ronald Blakeley; his sister-in-law, Marcia Blakeley; and his parents, Shirley and Elizabeth "Rae" Blakeley.
A memorial service to honor Terry’s life will be held on March 1st at 3:00 PM at Gibson Memorial United Methodist Church, 335 Oak Ridge Road, Vicksburg, Mississippi 39183.
Rest easy, Terry—you will be deeply missed.
