Keller resident, James Arelyn Cox, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017. He was a Methodist.
He was born on July 6, 1941, in Lubbock, Texas. His parents were Atticus Alex Cox and Nettie Louise Brown. He graduated from New Deal High School in 1959. He began his building career as a painting contractor, and established Homes by Arelyn Cox in 1975. He served as President of the West Texas Home Builders Association in 1985 and President of the Texas Association of Builders in 1991. He was named Builder of the Year by the Texas Association of Builders in 1996. He was a life board member of the Greater Fort Worth Builders Association where he was inducted into the Fort Worth Housing Hall of Honor in 2013.
He served as a commissioner on the City of Keller’s Planning and Zoning Board for 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son James Alan.
Survivors include his wife Rhonda of 28 years; a son Shannon Cox and wife Shanny of Murphy, TX; a daughter Tiffiny Kitchens and husband Kirk of Lubbock, TX; his brother Atticus Cox and wife Sherrie of Denton, TX; his brother-in-law Dan Rush of Midland, TX; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He loved his family, his friends, the farm and fiddle playing.
Funeral services are under the direction of Lucas Funeral Home at 1601 South Main, Keller, TX. Visitation will be on Monday, January 30th from 6-8 PM and services will be held Tuesday, January 31st at 2 PM.
For those whom care to pay their respects; a public viewing will be held from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM Thursday in the Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock with the family not being present. A graveside service which will follow at 1:00 PM. A celebration of life will begin at 3:00 PM at St. Luke’s Methodist Church, 3708 45th Street in Lubbock.
