Jim was born in Fort Worth on June 13, 1930, and was raised in Dallas. After graduating from high school and a brief period playing fullback for SMU, he joined the U.S. Army in 1948. He met the love of his life, Judith, in 1949 while stationed in Coburg, Germany, and they were married in 1952. Jim proudly served his country for over 24 years, including a tour in Vietnam with the 1st Infantry Division 1966-67. For valorous service he was awarded five bronze stars (four with oak leaf clusters) and the Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with a silver star. In 1971 he retired with the rank of senior command sergeant major and began a new career with H. Ross Perot and EDS. In 1991 he finally retired and enjoyed time with family, ensuring he had the greenest lawn on the street and being the biggest fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Stars. He epitomized loyalty and integrity, and will be greatly missed.
Survivors: Wife, Judith Schlegelmilch Land; son, Frank Land (wife Terri); daughters, Susann Land, M.D., and Glynda Land-Roenicke; sister, Cherie Reynolds; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
