James Joseph Steves

James Joseph Steves, age 89, of Bedford, Texas died Monday, August 21, 2017 under hospice care at Harris Methodist Hospital.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of George and Anna (McCormack) Steves and was one of four children. James was educated at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School. He was a graduate of Holy Trinity High School. He was a United States Marine who served in the Pacific. James was employed by Caltex Petroleum for 40 years. He was a congregant of St. Michael Catholic Church.
He is survived by his 4 children James (Linda), Susan (Paul), John and Richard (Sandy) and 7 grandchildren (Alison, Sean, Hannah, Sara, Jonathan, Samantha and Sean). James was preceded in death by his wife, Veronica, brothers George and Billy, sister Anne, and daughter-in-law Mara.
James will be remembered as a gentleman and a gentle man. He was a man of faith, a hard worker, a sports enthusiast , a good father and loving grandfather.
The funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 24 at 1:00 PM at St. Michael Catholic Church in Bedford. The family will hold a vigil for James from 12-12:45 PM on Thursday, August 24 at the chapel at St. Michael Catholic Church until the time of the funeral Mass. Burial will be at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, New York.
