July 9, 1947 — February 10, 2025

Grapevine

James Roy Todd, Jr., affectionately known as "Jimmy," age 77, of Grapevine, Texas, and Sugar Grove, North Carolina, stepped into heaven on February 10, 2025. Born on July 9, 1947, in Charlotte, North Carolina, he was the beloved son of the late James Roy Todd, Sr. and Rachel Harkey Todd.

Jimmy's early years were spent in Charlotte, where he graduated from East Mecklenburg High School. He pursued higher education at Clemson University, earning a degree in civil engineering while also achieving notable accomplishments as a member of the track team and serving as Wing Commander of their Air Force ROTC program. His dedication to serve was evident as he joined the United States Air Force, where he proudly flew B-52 bombers as part of the 51st Bomb Squadron during the Vietnam War. Alongside his military service, he earned a Master’s Degree from Central Michigan University, exemplifying a lifelong commitment to education and excellence.

Following his distinguished military career, Jimmy transitioned into the world of commercial aviation, where he piloted for Braniff Airlines and later for Northwest Airlines, which has since become Delta Airlines. His passion for flying allowed him the opportunity to explore the skies and connect with countless individuals throughout his career.

In retirement, Jimmy found joy largely in the great outdoors, where he loved hiking, biking, paddling, and embracing nature’s beauty. He cherished special moments spent with family and friends, filling their lives with laughter and warmth. A man of deep faith, he found strength and community within his church families in both Texas and North Carolina, where he was an active member and enjoyed fellowship with his brothers and sisters in Christ.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Linda Stubbs Todd; his son Chris Todd and wife Holly from Frisco, Texas; his daughter Heather Reck and husband David from Lucas, Texas; and his grandchildren, who were a source of immense pride and joy: Savannah, Christopher, and Isabella Todd; Keegan, Hunter, and Ellie Reck. Also left to cherish his memory is his sister Harriet and her husband Lloyd Ralphs of Lake Keowee, South Carolina, along with nieces Karen Smith, Marcy Jamrok, Jessica Ward, and their families.

Jimmy’s family expresses their heartfelt gratitude for the compassionate care he received from the staff at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson, North Carolina.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at Cross Church in North Richland Hills, Texas, on March 14, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by a time of fellowship with friends. Later that day, at 2:00 PM, he will be laid to rest at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

His spirit and legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him, and he will be deeply missed.
