James Russell Wright, "Russ", age 92, went to be with the Lord, on January 28, 2024, in his Senior Living Apartment in Hurst, TX.
Russ was born on November 23, 1931, on a farm in Deport, TX to Andrew and Lillie (Barnes) Wright.
Russ graduated in 1949 from Sunset High School in Dallas. He was drafted into the Army and proudly served in the Korean War 1951-1953. In 1953, he married Patsy Martin, and they had 2 daughters, Debbie and Mindy. After residing in Dallas and Sherman, they moved to Arlington, TX, where he attended and graduated from UTA.
Over the years, Russ worked as a manufacturer’s representative for numerous companies in the plastics industry. In 2012, he married Mary Rogers. In their 9 years together, they traveled and entertained as much as they could.
Russ loved playing golf until he had to give it up at age 89. During his golfing years, he made seven holes in one, and “shot his age” several times. He also enjoyed watching football games on TV, and spending time with his family, including his 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Bruce Patton, their children, Lindsay and Taylor Watts, Jeff Patton and Luci Harris, and grandchildren - Clara and Noah Watts, daughter and son-in-law Mindy and David Corley, their children Kim and Brian Rentsh, Kelly and Dave Burkett, Kevin and Lauren Corley, grandchildren- Campbell & Corley Rentsch, Calvin, James, and Daniel Burkett, Zoey LaMonica and Makenna Corley.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rogers, his mother and father, Lillie and Andrew Wright, his sister Gerry Crowley and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Arrangements are with Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst, TX, and the service will be February 15, 2:45 at the Dallas National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the VFW.
