Janet Haenel Johnston

Janet Haenel Johnston went to be with her Savior on May 27,2020 after a long struggle with Alzheimers. She was 90 years old. Born in Syracuse, NY, she was a graduate of North Syracuse High School and Syracuse University. Her career was spent teaching Home Economics in the Liverpool schools, with a short stint at Perry Hall High School, Maryland.
A member of North Syracuse Baptist Church for 70 years, Janet served in many capacities, and made many wonderful, lifelong friends.
In her retirement she spent countless happy hours in her garden, traveling the world, creating beautiful projects with the Embroiders Guild, and cherishing her family.
She is predeceased by her parents Darwin and Ruth Haenel, her sister Joyce Read, and her former husband Norman Johnston. She is survived by her sister Nancy Bettinger (Bill), her daughters Susan O’Brien and Barbara Wayman (Peter), grandchildren Becky Wayman Rasdall (Dow), Lexi Wayman and Casey O’Brien, and great grandchildren Zoey, Zach and Violet Rasdall, as well as a much loved niece and three nephews.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to North Syracuse Baptist Church (The Gathering Place).
