Janet Julia Trucksess Moore, age 94, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2025. Born in Brownsburg, Indiana, on August 30, 1930, she spent her early years in Maryland and Virginia before embarking on a remarkable journey that defined her life.

At just 16, Janet left home to attend Texas Christian University, where she met the love of her life, Jess Eugene (Gene) Moore. After earning her BA in art, she and Gene married in Herndon, Virginia, on September 8, 1951. They built a beautiful life together, first in Fort Worth, then in Midland, Texas, where they had three girls. In 1957, they moved to Shreveport, Louisiana, where their son was born, but soon returned to Midland—the place they always said they belonged. It remained their home for more than 60 years.

Talented and creative, Jan was an exceptional watercolorist and seamstress, expressing herself through art and needlework. Her kindness, sense of humor, and warmth extended beyond the canvas—her beautiful soprano voice filled the home, the car, and even the stage, as she performed in community theater musicals. She was a dedicated mother, shuttling her children to countless activities, always ensuring they were surrounded by music, creativity, and love.

In addition to her artistic passions, Janet worked for a short time as a substitute art teacher, sharing her creativity and inspiring young minds. She also pursued a career in real estate, helping people find homes in the community she loved so much.

Janet had an endless affection for babies and dogs—no little one or furry friend was ever a stranger. She and Gene shared a passion for travel, exploring the world together, both with their children or friends and on their own. They learned to ski in their 50’s and continued until their late 70’s! Some of their most cherished memories were made on family ski trips to Colorado and New Mexico.

In their later years, they moved to the Dallas area to be closer to family, eventually settling into assisted living as life slowed down. Through it all, Jan remained a source of love, warmth, and inspiration to those around her.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dwight Harmon Trucksess; her mother, Helen South Trucksess; and her brother, David Dwight Trucksess. She leaves behind a loving family who misses her dearly and will hold her close in their memory: her husband of 73 years, Jess (Gene) Moore; her children and sons-in-law, Carolyn Moore (Darrel VanDyke), Sandy Steele (Guy Steele), Gayle Barrera (John Barrera), and William (Bill) Moore; her grandchildren and daughter-in-law, Alexandra (Alex) Moore-VanDyke (Erin Valley), Montie Steele, and Helene and Cristina Barrera; her sisters, Lynne Irvine and Esther Trucksess; her sister-in-law, Mary Trucksess; and her nieces and nephews, Lin Stillman, Robin Trumbo, Eric Trucksess, Jane Truxess, Mark Trucksess, and Melissa Abcarian, and their spouses and children; as well as many cousins and family friends.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Arcy Healthcare, especially Melissa George, Adult Gerontological Nurse Practitioner, for the loving care she provided to Janet and still gives to Jess, and to Alicja Kuskowska, RN, for the expert hospice care she coordinated for Janet, as well as the comfort and support both offered the family. Special thanks also to the caregivers and staff at The Pearl Senior Living for their dedicated care and kindness over the last four years.

Janet’s legacy of kindness, creativity, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
