Janice Marie (Steagald) Grant, 70, of Cleburne, formerly of Big Spring, died peacefully in her sleep September 21, 2017 at her home in Cleburne, Texas.
Memorial service will be held at Lucas & Blessing Funeral Home in Burleson on September 27, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Janice was born in Abilene to W.A. and Elsie Marie (Rainey) Steagald on October 27, 1946. She attended Coahoma High School and was an Army wife and mother, serving for 22 years beside her husband LTC Thomas A Grant, Sr, with her children Thomas A Grant, Jr, and Amy Marie (Grant) Rockenbach. After spending her honeymoon in the Army barracks guest house at Ft. Polk, LA, Janice made 19 moves and traveled to 48 states, including Alaska and Hawaii. After Tom’s retirement from the Army, Janice continued to serve as a homemaker and then as a nanny and preschool teacher; she will always be remembered by some of “her kids” as Grandma Janice. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed movies, reading, history, genealogy, sharing stories of all kinds, listening to the gospel music of Guy Penrod and the Gaither Vocal Band as well as any music by Elvis. Above all else, she loved spending time with her family.
