Jannette Estelle Davis-Miller

December 18, 1949 — November 27, 2015

Jannette Estelle Davis-Miller, affectionately known as "Jan", departed this life on Nov. 27, 2015 at home in Grapevine.

Service: 11:30 am Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Grapevine. Interment to follow in Grapevine Cemetery. Visitation: The family will greet guests from 6 to 8 pm Friday at Lucas Funeral Home in Grapevine. Honorary pallbearers will be the Seekers Class.

Jan was born December 18, 1949 in Blowing Point, Anguilla in the British West Indies. As a dedicated member of the Maranatha Methodist Church of Blowing Point, Jan served faithfully and became Sunday School Superintendent and Local Minister while in High School. After High School graduation in 1967, she became certified to teach in the local primary schools. Jan then completed her Bachelor's Degree at the University of the Virgin Islands - St. Thomas. While teaching in the VI School System and serving as a Cub Scout den leader, she met the District Scout Executive (Carey Miller) for St. Thomas and St. John, USVI.

Shortly thereafter, Jan enrolled in Graduate School at Penn State, State College, PA. where Carey Miller Proposed marriage during a Thanksgiving visit in 1979. After completion of a Master's Degree in Counselor Education, the young couple moved to Columbia, SC in 1980, where Jan served with the Dept. of Youth Services and became the mother of Kyle John Miller, a son that she loved dearly. During the early 1990's, the family moved to St. Louis, MO after a BSA promotion for Carey.

In St. Louis, Jan served as the Director for a Magdela Foundation Drug Treatment Center. In 1998 her Husband was promoted to the National Office of the Boy Scouts of America in Irving, TX. Jan and Kyle followed at the end of the school year.

In 1999, after moving to Grapevine, Jan and Carey along with a few parents and Special Needs Students started SNAP (Special Needs Assistance Partners) Inc. Jan was the 1st President of SNAP. During the early years, SNAP met at 1st United Methodist Church of Grapevine and the Grapevine REC Center. Jan then joined the ranks of Tarrant County College (TCC) NE. She served as Lead Instructor for the Pathways program until recent retirement.

She was preceded in passing by her parents, Wilfred C. Davis and Eda Louise Franklin Davis.

Survivors: Husband, Carey Miller; son, Kyle John Miller; step-children, Curtis (Rita) Miller, Keith (Melissa) Miller, Angella Miller, Audria (Terry) Hawkins and their children; siblings: Oris Hughes of Slough, England, Hugh (Vanessa) Romney of Fulton, MD, Monsel (Varian) Davis, Bronte Richardson, Pearline Romney-Lake, and Icilma Romney-Carty of Anguilla, BWI; aunt, Bernice Carty of South Hill Anguilla, BWI; Kyle's godmother, Myrtle Frederick and family of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands; and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends; plus a host of Church Leaders in Anguilla, BWI and Grapevine, Texas, as well as the 1st UMC Seekers Class of Grapevine, St. John Church Unleashed in Southlake, Circle of Friends Book Club and our dear, Judy Brown.
