Jasper Nathaniel De Jonge passed away peacefully at the age of 80 on August 16, 2023 following an extended illness in Fort Worth, TX. He will always be remembered as a loving friend and colleague to all that knew and loved him.
Jasper was born in Limlair Village, Berbice, Guyana on January 25, 1943 to Claudius De Jonge and Nancy Henrietha Scott De Jonge. Jasper attended The University of Guyana studying the Principles of Management, later serving in Guyana’s Ministry of Agriculture. In 1984 Jasper immigrated to the United States settling in northern New Jersey, working for Crystal Plaza Catering in Livingston, NJ as well as an orderly for Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville, NJ where he was also a Union Delegate. In March, 1992 he completed his certification in Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Heating Technology at Lincoln Technical Institute and accepted a job with Federal Express Corporation at their Newark Hub as a Customs Clearance Officer. Later that year Jasper obtained certification from the New York Institute for Applied Medical Technology as a phlebotomy technician. Eleven years after arriving in this country, Jasper became a United States citizen in 1995. In 2010 Jasper transferred with Federal Express to Fort Worth, TX to their Alliance Hub, retiring with twenty years service in 2012. Following his retirement, Jasper was a faithful member of Trinity Presbyterian Church of Southlake serving as a Deacon and a member of the Property Team.
Jasper is survived by close friend Claudette Cush and her son Silvern Cush all of East Orange, NJ as well as many other friends and his Trinity church family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Claudius and Nancy De Jonge.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 26 at Trinity Presbyterian Church of Southlake at 1452 West Southlake Blvd. in Southlake, TX. Visitation is scheduled at 9:00 AM in the Library followed at 10:00 AM by a memorial service in the Worship Center. Light refreshments will be served in the Narthex during visitation.
A graveside service will be conducted following the memorial service at Bourland Cemetery at 900 Bourland Road in Keller, TX. In lieu of flowers, Jasper would like you to consider a donation to St. Jude’s Children Hospital in Memphis, TN.
