Jaymee Lee (Griffiths) Colvin

Jaymee Lee (Griffiths) Colvin, previously Jaymee Lee Seidel, age 85, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, October 17, 2022 in Denton, TX after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Jaymee was born the youngest of 3 siblings in Fort Wayne, IN to parents F. Emerson and Esther Griffiths. She graduated from Central High School in Fort Wayne and went on to attend Oberlin College and Conservatory studying music. Jaymee married Robert Seidel in 1958 in Fort Wayne, IN and they adopted two children together. Jaymee and Bob divorced on May 23, 1989 and in 1995 she married Gerald Frank Colvin in Waco, TX.
Jaymee was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Colvin; former husband, Robert Seidel; her parents, F. Emerson and Esther Griffiths; two older sisters, Nancy Speckman and Bobette Shaw; and her former in-laws, John and Pauline Seidel. Jaymee is survived by her son, Erik (Heidi Herczeg) Seidel; her daughter, Amy (Christopher) Cass and their two children, Kendall and Cage. Also surviving Jaymee are Frank’s children and numerous extended family members.
A talented singer, pianist, writer, and cook, she used her talents in many ways throughout her lifetime. As a writer and humorist, Jaymee had articles published in many magazines including Michigan Out of Doors, The AAUW (American Assoc. of University Women), and North Dakota Horizons. She also wrote a newspaper column in Michigan called Mainstream Musings. As a musician, Jaymee studied opera and piano. She was a lifelong choir member and worked as the choir director for many of the churches she attended as well as freelanced playing piano at various restaurants and events. Jaymee was also a secretary for many years for a law firm as well as the Superintendent of Schools in Grand Forks, ND. Later in life, Jaymee worked as a ranch cook at Sunlight Ranch in Wyola, MT and a baker at The Bozeman Trail Steakhouse in Buffalo, WY. Her last employment before retiring was as a caregiver in Wyoming and Texas.
