Jeffrey Kent Prough

January 3, 1955 — January 13, 2019

On Sunday, January 13, 2019, Jeffrey Kent Prough, loving husband and father, lost his heroic battle with lung cancer at the age of 64.
Jeffrey was born on January 3, 1955, in Jerseyville, IL to Frank Jr. and Emma Grace Prough. He graduated from Jersey Community High School in 1973. He studied horticulture at Danville Junior College and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. On April 14, 1978, he married Vivian Renee Cope. They shared 40 years together.
Jeffrey had a passion for farming but gravitated towards landscaping creation and design. He also loved making specialty knives and furniture. In 1994, Jeffrey and his family moved to Euless, Texas. In 1999, he started working as a sales representative at Southwest Wholesale Nursery in Carrollton, TX. He retired from Southwest in 2012. He was known for his quick wit, his bluntness, an infectious smile and his kind and compassionate spirit.
Jeffrey and his wife bought an 11 acre property in De Kalb, TX. It was here, where he got to live out his childhood dream of farming. He built their beautiful home on the land and turned the property into a profitable hobby farm with vegetable gardens and a large fruit orchard that included blueberries, blackberries, apples, peaches, figs, chestnuts and more. After retirement, he spent all of his time tending to his dream come true.
Jeffrey was preceded in death by his father, Frank Jr. and mother, Emma Grace. He is survived by his wife, Vivian, his sons Aaron (and Christi) and Michael (all of Euless) and his brother, Brad (North Richland Hills).
