Jerry Clinton Harris

June 20, 1950 — July 17, 2020

Jerry Clinton Harris, devoted father, brother, and man of faith, passed away peacefully at home in Keller, Texas on July 17, 2020 at the age of 70 surrounded by his loving family.

Jerry’s greatest source of joy was his family. The father of four and granddaddy to five, Jerry never passed up an opportunity to tell his kids and grand-kids that he was proud of them. Jerry never met a stranger; his enduring positivity and kindness endeared him to all who met him. He had many lifelong friends who remained close to his heart. Jerry Harris was the supreme encourager. He possessed a keen and very unique ability to make everyone he came into contact with to feel better about themselves as well as to strive to be better person. He definitely knew how to enjoy life as well as he developed a great love of golf and he loved traveling to play his favorite courses, especially with his son, Clint. Born in Bossier City, Louisiana to Jamie (a US Postal Service injury prevention specialist) and Jerry Harris (a World War II Navy veteran and terrific athlete – a former LSU quarterback), Jerry’s star rose early as the Bossier High School quarterback as well as Captain of the team. As he described his early life with his parents and siblings, he noted that his father made it clear: “If the church doors are open, we’re going to be there!” He also spoke lovingly of a mom and dad that never missed a single one of his sports activities. After high school, Jerry was recruited to play football for Mississippi State University, where he earned a landscape architectural degree and an MBA.

In his career, Jerry had a passion for helping his peers and employees grow, stretch and have better lives. He also had an affinity for entrepreneurship. His 50-year career spanned insurance, home building, residential development, and most recently, steel fabrication. After graduating from college, Jerry’s early career in the insurance industry even provided him an opportunity to run for the office of Mayor in Bossier City. Later, during his time in California, Jerry became a division President for the well-respected, national home builder, K Hovnanian Homes. In this position, Jerry and his team created new residential communities in Bakersfield, Palmdale, Valencia and throughout Northern Los Angeles County. It is important to note that the owners and senior officers of Summit Metals Corporation, Jerry’s current employer, stood by him in incredible support and love through the final days of his life.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Jamie and Jerry Harris, and sister Judy Wall.

He is survived by his children Julie and Mark Beffort, Clint and Amy Harris, Sophia Harris and Roman Harris; grandchildren Stella, Poet, Scarlett, Mac, and Violette; brother and sister-in-law James and Sharla Harris; sister and brother-in-law Lea and Danny Carney; bonus family Beverly and Ben West.

Jerry’s family’s devotion to him was unmatched. As an example, his sister, Lea, traveled from her home in Florida to dedicate herself to caring for him in his final year. This amazing, selfless gift offered Jerry the best quality of life and care possible. During this time, Jerry often called “Lea Lea” his most special angel.

Private services will be held at Lucas Funeral Home in Keller Texas on Tuesday, July 21st. His wish was that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Keystone Church in support of “A Place to Call Home”, a special fund created to help build a new home campus that will increase the church’s capacity and continue to fulfill the vision of leading everyone to experience a passionate life in Christ.

Honorary pallbearers: Steve Keene, Trevor Lavy, Joe Petersen, Jeff Harris, Rick Garrett, and Ben West.

On Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at 2:00 pm, a Live Stream of Jerry's Celebration of Life will be viewable here:
