Jewell Wesseling

May 24, 1919 — September 30, 2012

HURST -- Jewell Wadsworth Copeland Wesseling, 93, celebrated her homecoming with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at a Corpus Christi nursing home. Service: 11 a.m. Friday at Richland Hills Baptist Church, Richland Hills, the Rev. James Hooper presiding. Interment will be in D/FW National Cemetery on Tuesday morning, Oct. 9. Viewing: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Richland Hills Baptist Church, 6852 Baker Blvd., Richland Hills, Texas 76118. "Judy," as she was known, was born May 24, 1919, in Leggett, to Eli C. Copeland and Jimmie Narcissus Hollomon. She spent several years working for the Texas Department of Public Safety in Austin, where she met her husband, Victor Wesseling ("Wess") at the end of World War II. They were married on Dec. 21, 1946, and were married for over 60 years. Judy and Wess were extremely devoted to each other, to their Lord, and to their family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and Wess also preceded her in 2007. Judy was also preceded in death by her brothers, Woodrow and James, and her sisters, Vernon and Lois. Judy spent all of her life in service to other people. This was evident in the ministries she participated in at her church, and to the neighbors and friends she knew and loved. There was not a day that went by that she did not touch the life of someone through either a gift, a word of encouragement, or by sending a card or letter. People were blessed by knowing her. She always thought of others first over any personal need she may have had herself. She was a gracious and loving wife to Wess and a caring mother to her children, and everyone she touched grew to know and love her dearly and considered her an extension of their own family. Even in her later years, Judy seemed to give more support and love to her caregivers than they gave to her. Survivors: Judy is survived by a sister Johnnimae Courtney of Seminole; her son, Richard (Gail) of Corpus Christi; granddaughters, Heather Gunter (Michael) and Audrey Wesseling; son, David (Melinda) of Big Canoe, Ga.; grandson, Matthew Wesseling (Lauren); and granddaughters, Amanda Wesseling and Lindsey Wesseling. She is also survived by one great-grandson, Owen Wesseling; and numerous nieces and nephews.
