Jim Hancock passed away peacefully at home in Grapevine on Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, surrounded by his family. He was 87 years of age.
Graveside service: 2 p.m. Wednesday in historic Grapevine Cemetery. Visitation: The family will greet guests from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lucas Funeral Home in Grapevine.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation, 1 E. Wacker Drive, Suite 2810, Chicago, Ill., 60601.
Jim was born on April 20, 1928, to Sidney Lloyd and Virgie Mae Hancock in Gatesville. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon returning to Grapevine, he began working for the city in the water department as well as many other roles before becoming the city manager.
Jim retired as city manager of Grapevine in 1986 to enjoy his hobbies such as traveling with his family, restoring classic cars and doing carpentry work. He was also a longtime Mason with Lodge 288 in Grapevine. "Grandaddy" loved his family and especially his furry-pawed friends.
Jim was preceded in passing by his parents; daughter, Angela Hancock; and siblings, Anita and Terry.
Survivors: Loving wife of 65 years, Robbie Starr Hancock; sons, Kerry Hancock (Caryn) and Jimmy Hancock (Renee); grandchildren, Mitzi Morse (Nicky), Erica Slavens (Luke) and Taylor Hancock (Samantha); great-grandchildren, Dusty, Lain, Cayden and a baby boy on the way; sisters, Linda and Margaret; and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
