Jim R. Hylton, age 87, born August 25, 1935 in Norwood, Missouri.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am, January 5th, 2022 at Northwood Baptist Church, in Keller, TX.
Called to the ministry at a very early age, Jim began pastoring a church at the seasoned age of 17. From there he spent over 70 years as a pastor, evangelist, theologian, author, publisher, and the leader of a ministry that took him throughout the world. At the core of Jim’s life was his wife, Jane, and they enjoyed 67 years of marriage. Jane survives Jim, joined by their four children, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Jim came from generations of farmers and the values and lessons of that way of life shaped him. He instilled a deep appreciation for farming and livestock in his children. He was a lover of the outdoors, serving as a fishing guide in the early years of ministry to supplement his income, and regularly took his four young children on fishing trips. He spent years training bird dogs and had a singular passion for quail hunting, spending hours with his son, many friends and his beloved dogs.
He had an ardent love for adventure and travel, and made sure his children saw national parks, monuments, historical sites, and baseball parks from coast to coast. His greatest devotion to the beauty of America lay in the Rocky Mountains, which he discovered as a young boy visiting his uncle in Wyoming. He so loved Colorado that he eventually built a home in the mountains, overlooking Colorado Springs. He organized family ski trips, Jeep outings, four-wheel adventures across breathtaking slopes, and long hikes in nature. He was an athlete and a sports devotee, and kept himself active and healthy by running religiously.
He dedicated his life to serving others in ministry and has touched thousands of people, many of whom cared for he and Jane in their later years. He remained a lifelong learner and to his last days remained deeply curious about spirituality and theology, finishing his final book days before the end of his life.
