Joan H. Mcalear

July 27, 1940 — September 17, 2016

Joan Helen McAlear, of Euless, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2016, at Universal Hospice Center in Fort Worth, Texas.

Joan, or Miki, as her American Airlines friends called her, was born July 27, 1940, in Jamaica, New York, and grew up in a neighborhood in Manhattan. Even though she lived in Texas for 35 years, Joan always considered herself a New Yorker. She will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery, in Kew Gardens, New York, where her parents are buried.

After working for Thomas Cook Travel, Joan joined American Airlines. She worked in New York and Hartford, Ct., and in 1981, was transferred to the Dallas-Fort Worth area with hundreds of American employees. She spent the rest of her career at the Southern Reservations office, mostly in the International Tariff department.

Miki loved to travel and made good use of her travel priviledges at American. She made numerous trips throughout Europe, traveled to New Zealand where she hiked the "Milford Track", and even spent time living in an ashram in India, studying under a guru. She loved cruising, and earned an "open water" scuba certificate. She won prizes for target shooting and loved riding in a sled pulled by Huskies.

Miki loved her own dogs, all poodles, from standard size to tiny. She is survived by her beloved Haley, a white toy poodle, who will live out her life with Debbie, also a retired American employee.

Above all these things, Miki loved and trusted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, and was ready to go on to her new life with Him

Miki is survived by 3 cousins, Debra Klasko of Freeport, New York, Barbara Seamens and Mary K. Williams, both of Spring Hills, Fla., and their children. She is also survived by long time friends Elaine Alestra and Marion Mango, of New York, and a host of friends from churches she attended, Bible Study Fellowship, and Amerian Airlines,.

Whether we knew her as Joan or Miki, we will all remember her as a woman who lived her life to the fullest, loved working for American Airlines, and was always ready for her next adventure.

Have a great flight, Miki!
