"In Loving Memory
Joe Storey Flowers 1947-2024 Joe Flowers passed away after an extended lease on life, thanks to helpful and talented cardiologists; he was the guy joking with the nurses and entertaining the techs. Joe was born in Paris, Texas, to educators Herbert Davidson Flowers and Juanita Ann Storey — a proud member of the Choctaw Tribe of Oklahoma. Joe was known for his playful personality and colorful one liners. He was “the dad who was there” at his kids’ practices and performances. Joe was intense and emotionally intelligent; in his professional sales and fundraising consultant roles, but also personally, he asked insightful questions that “made you feel like you were the only person in the room.” Some of the foundations and institutions he served are Fort Worth Osteopathic Hospital, Texas Wesleyan College (now University), Texas Boys’ Ranch, Texas Tech School of Law, and Guardianship Services. He had a deep interest in history, geography, and politics; he also enjoyed sports over his lifetime such as football, soccer, strength-balance training, and ping pong. His retirement community these last few years enjoyed his humor and willingness to serve. When his health would not allow him to work or drive, he told his grandchildren “I can’t do what I used to do, but I still know how to love.” His favorite exhortation, to live fully as uniquely as God made each of us, is from Blazing Saddles: Go do that voodoo that you do so well!
Joe is preceded in death by his loving son-in-law, Mark John Wood. Joe is survived by his former wife, Cynthia, and their three children Joley, Justin (Jen) and Jordan (Amy); grandchildren Jonah, JimiJade, Hudson, and Vera; sister Nita (Ed), nephew Erik (Esther), and niece Anna (Chris); and many family and friends. Please join us at a memorial service celebrating Joe’s life Saturday, April 20, at 2 PM at Lucas Funeral Home, 700 West Wall Street in Grapevine. Donations in memoriam can be made to World Vision, Hilldale College, Prager U, or a relief ministry of your choice. Thank you for loving Joe!"
