Joe Ray Morrison, 86 of Hurst, retiree from Metal Goods Corporation passed away Thursday, September 20, 2018 surrounded by his family.
Joe Ray Morrison was born son of Bill and Bertha Morrison in Bosque, County,Texas, April 25, 1932. He joined the Morgan Baptist Church at an early age during a summer tabernacle revival. On Sunday evening he was baptized in the Steel’s Creek at Cole’s Hole. (at least a dozen more were baptized with him, all hiding behind the bushes to change clothes)
His grandpa was one of the charter members of the Morgan Baptist Church and also involved with the Masonic Lodge. Joe Ray’s great-grandpa left Georgia for the Colorado gold rush and never returned home. Jo Ray’s grandpa left for Fort Worth, TX. When he was 21 he followed the Chisholm Cattle Trail and when he crossed Steel Creek Valley, he fell in love and decided to settle west of the trail between what is now Morgan and Walnut.
Joe graduated from Morgan High School in 1950 and worked as a movie projectionist before enlisting in the USAF.
First Stop – Wiesbaden, Germany (29th Weather Squadron Air Weather Wing, 36 months (Visited Munich)
Second Stop – Tripoli, Libya (Wheelus Air Force Base – 16 month, taking early leave due to death of his sister, Maureen. She was diagnosed with Bright’s Disease and died at the early age of 41. She never married. Her brother Jim held her hand as she took her last breath.
Third Stop – Amarillo
After the Korean War influenced by his Family, church members and his father’s stroke he took a hardship discharge. He had been ordered to engineering school in Florida. Reluctantly, Joe Ray left the military.
After serving his country he worked for Metal Goods Corporation for 40 years. In 1955 he met Joan Killman, the girl of his dreams, they were wed March, 1956. Upon his death they had been married 62 years.
“Always be honest, truthful and sincere and if you don’t have something nice to say, say nothing at all.” These were the words Joe Ray lived by.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Bill and Bertha Morrison, 2 brothers; Jim and Jack Morrison, 4 sisters; Maureen Morrison, Evelyn Hebert, Vera Mae DuRoss and Ruth Sullins, 2 nephews, 1 niece and 1 grandson.

Joe Ray’s survivors include his wife, Joyce Joan Morrison, 3 daughters; Vickie Seymour, Linda Terry, Nancy Morrison, 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends
