In loving memory of
Joe Pat Wheeler
1940 – 2023
On October 24, 2023, Joe Pat Wheeler ascended to heaven peacefully from home surrounded by his loving family after a brief, but courageous, battle with cancer.
Joe was born on October 11, 1940, in Fort Worth, Texas to Marvin E. Wheeler and Prebble Sprouse Wheeler. He graduated from Poly High School in 1958 and attended classes at both TCU and UTA. Joe was employed as a Supervisor at LTV (aka Vought/Northrop Grumman) where he retired after 35 years of service. He also served in the Texas Army National Guard, 2nd Battalion, 112th Armored Division for 32 years before retiring at a rank of Command Sargeant Major. Joe married the love of his life, Betty Ann King, on June 6, 1964. He was a beloved husband, and devoted father to their 2 children, son Joel, daughter Traci and 5 grandchildren.
In the 83 years that Joe lived, he was so many things to so many people. He was a son, a brother, a husband, a dad, a papa/grandpa, an uncle, a coach, and a friend. Joe had a true servant’s heart and was always willing to lend a hand to those around him. He spent countless hours working on hotrods with the kids. He was always there to support his children and grandchildren’s various activities and cheer them on. He was also great at home improvement projects. He was always there to help a friend with building projects, built sets for the Christmas programs and work at the Childrens Home in Matamoras. Even into his 80’s, he could lay tile with the best of them! In his spare time, Joe loved to travel, take cruises, play golf, work jigsaw puzzles, play cards and 42, and enjoyed going to listen to 50’s and 60’s music.
Joe is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Wheeler; son Joel Wheeler, daughter Traci Wheeler Hall; grandsons Tanner Hall, Zachary Hall, and Ty Wheeler; granddaughters Brooklynn Hall and Alyssa Hall; brother Bill (Sandra) Wheeler and many adored nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Prebble Wheeler, his brothers Jim Wheeler and Bob Wheeler, and son-in-law Greg Hall. Joe’s family invites you to join them on November 24, 2023, at the DFW National Cemetery (2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211) for the Military funeral honors and committal service at 11:30am followed by a celebration of his life at Lake Church (2912 Little Rd, Arlington, Texas 76016) at 1:30pm.
