Joel Ray Moore

December 7, 1922 — October 27, 2015

Joel Ray Moore. 92, passed away peacefully October 27, 2015.
Memorial Service 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 14, 2015 at St. Michael Anglican Church, 3800 Poppewell, Richland Hills.
Born in Parma, Idaho Dec. 7, 1922 to Merle and Arthur Moore. The oldest of 3 brothers and 2 sisters, he worked in the family grocery business before enlisting in the Army Air Corps in his late teens. He subsequently chose the military life as a career, eventually attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the USAF. During his military travels, he met and eventually married June Crutcher on Christmas Day 1943 in Texas. Over his 28 years of military service, Joel served his country admirably in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Joel was held as a P.O.W in Romania near the close of WWII and received the Purple Heart. He retired with honors in Orlando, FL. 1968. After a brief military retirement, Joel went to work for the Tandy Corporation, headquartered in Ft. Worth. He became a store manager for Radio Shack and then a regional management executive before retiring his second career in the late 80's.
Joel was actively involved with the church, St. Michael Anglican, where he served as many roles, including Senior Warden. Being a lifelong Christian and Mason, he was a firm believer in helping others and would always commit his time when needed. Joel also carried a strong belief in the power to vote. He served as election judge, was actively involved with the Republican Party and voted a straight ticket every time. Furthermore, he was also committed to his civic duties and served with the city and county regarding miscellaneous affairs and issues. He valued doing his part for the community and was always honored anytime he could contribute.
When time allowed, he played softball for the Ft. Worth Senior Cats, was a member of the Cadillac-LaSalle Club, The North TX Travel Trailer Club and occasionally played a round of golf. He also enjoyed playing dominoes, breakfasts at McDonalds with best friends, eating Blue Bell Ice Cream and would never leave the house without wearing a favorite baseball cap. He loved to dance, cook out and looked forward all year to being Santa Claus at his daughter's schools, promising everything to all the children. Joel also had a great love for animals and was rarely seen without one of his little doggies by his side in his old blue truck. He led a very full life from early every morning, till after sunset every night. He was loved by many and will be truly missed. God Bless.
We would like to thank all the kind employees and residents at Keller Oaks Health Care Center for their constant care.
He was preceded in passing by his precious wife of 67 years, June Moore.
Survivors:
Daughters Melanie Swacker, Jody and husband Alan Peel and grandson Keith Swacker of Ft. Worth. Sister Lila Anderson of Provo, Utah and sister Elaine Jones of Bend, Oregon. Many nieces and nephews and his loving dog Bella.
