Johanna Fewer Cybak

August 30, 1925 — December 19, 2019

Loretta Cybak, formerly of Oak Knoll Avenue, Newton Falls, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2019, in Southlake, Texas, after a long illness. She was 94 years old.
Loretta was born in Harbour Main, Newfoundland to Thomas Fewer and Johanna Corbett Fewer on August 30, 1925. She lived, was educated and worked in Newfoundland until 1945.
During the war, she worked as a typist for the US Army at Fort McAndrew in Argentia, Newfoundland where she met Lieutenant John Cybak who was stationed there during the Second World War. Upon John’s discharge from the Army, Loretta moved in September of 1945 to Pennsylvania where she married John on October 20, 1945, at St. Mary’s Church, New Salem, Pennsylvania. Immediately after their marriage, Loretta and John moved to Newton Falls, Ohio, where they lived until his death in 1992.
Loretta was employed by Packard Electric Division of General Motors until her retirement in 1981. She was active in the Madonna Club and a member of St. Mary’s Church in Newton Falls. After becoming a US citizen in 1948, Loretta volunteered her time in the 1950s as an election judge and also volunteered at St. Mary School.
Prior to her relocation to Texas, Pat and Roy Harvey of Newton Falls did much to assist Loretta in maintaining her Newton Falls residency. When she could no longer maintain her home, she lived with her daughters in Illinois and Texas until she became ill while in Texas and could no longer travel. At that time, she was lovingly cared for by her daughter, Marie and her husband, Fred, until her death.
Loretta was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents, Thomas and Johanna (Hanna), a brother, Richard and four sisters: Madeline Druken, Catherine Corbett, and Bridget Wetle and Mary Ellen (Helen) Hunt. She is survived by her daughters, Marie (Fred) Mills of Colleyville, Texas and Loretta (Fred) Kohut of Libertyville, Illinois. Five grandchildren survive: Jennifer Mills of Dallas, Texas, Jonathan (Michele) Mills of Highland Park, Illinois, Matthew (Kristi) Kohut of Libertyville, Illinois, Anne (Roman) Phoenix of Mundelein, Illinois and Sarah (Brian) Carey of Libertyville, Illinois. Loretta is also survived by her 8 great-grandchildren: Owen Kohut, Ashley Phoenix, Ryan Phoenix, Austin Carey, Evan Carey, Liam Carey, Ava Mills and Caroline Mills. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Francis Kolar of Streetsboro, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours at 10am on Saturday, January 4, 2020, at Borowski Funeral home will precede a Mass of Christian Burial which will follow at St. Mary and St Joseph Church, Newton Falls, Ohio. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, John, at St. Joseph Cemetery, Paris Twp. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to your favorite charity or the local food pantry.
