During the war, she worked as a typist for the US Army at Fort McAndrew in Argentia, Newfoundland where she met Lieutenant John Cybak who was stationed there during the Second World War. After becoming a US citizen in 1948, Loretta volunteered her time in the 1950s as an election judge and also volunteered at St. Mary School.
