John Foster Canafax

August 15, 1947 — January 28, 2021

John Foster Canafax, “Johnny,” was born August 15, 1947, in Fort Worth, Texas, to the late Wilson and Bernice Canafax. John passed away on January 28, 2021 in Fort Worth, Texas. His education included Hamilton High School in Hamilton, TX, and Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX. Johnny’s primary occupation was as a banker with extended service at Northeast National Bank in North Richland Hills, TX, and First National Bank in Southlake, TX. His focus on relationships and his “John Wayne” personality will forever touch the lives of the people who worked with him or simply happened to sit next to him at a restaurant. Johnny loved his family, loved life, sports, good food, and fast cars. He was kind and generous with his family and friends and never knew a stranger. His many treasured friends quickly became family, and if needed, he would rush to anyone in need, which is just one of many reasons so many people considered him a brother. Johnny gave back to his community as a founding board member of GRACE, volunteer teacher for Junior Achievement at Southlake Carroll High School, and an active member of the Grapevine Rotary Club. His grandkids were the apple of his eye. He was an avid high school and college football fan and had lunch with “the boys” every Friday. Towards the end of his life, he cherished his time with Marie Farmer, his sweetheart. Johnny is survived by his sister Virginia “Susie” Canafax and spouse Joyce Broersma of Atlanta, Georgia, his son Matthew Canafax, “favorite” daughter-in-love Rachel, and grandkids Elijah, Emma, Caleb, and Ethan of Grapevine, Texas. You left us too early, Papa Bear!

Visitation will be at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst, TX, on February 4, 2021, from 6 to 8 pm. The graveside service will be a private event.
